This Beef & Broccoli Stir Fry looks intimidating because of the long list of ingredients, but because you can sear the beef, microwave the broccoli, cook the rice, and make the sauce all at one time, it’s ready in less than 30 minutes! 

If cooking a lot of things at once isn’t your speed, you can also pull out your slow cooker for part of this meal. You can place the beef strips and sauce in your slow cooker to cook all day and then add the broccoli about an hour before serving, so it gets nice and tender. While that continues to finish cooking, you can make your rice. And then, voila, you have a delicious home cooked Beef & Broccoli Stir Fry that practically made itself!

Let’s talk beef. You can usually find stir fry beef in the meat section at the grocery store, but what happens when they’re out of it and you’re craving beef stir fry? Well, you have a couple of options. One, you can buy beef strips, but they are hard to come by sometimes. Two, you can buy a flank stank, pop it in the freezer for 30 minutes, and then cut it into thin strips using a sharp knife. Putting it in the freezer for 30 minutes makes it easier to slice. 

Any white rice is great with this dish. You can even use rice pouches that cook in the microwave in 90 seconds to speed things up. Shortcuts are always welcome in my kitchen!

The crushed red pepper flakes add heat to this Beef & Broccoli Stir Fry. You can use more or less depending on how hot you like your stir fry, or you can leave it out completely if serving to children. Either way, this stir fry recipe will still taste delicious. 

I chose to make this sauce both gluten and soy free because food allergies are becoming very commonplace, and finding a Stir Fry recipe that doesn’t contain gluten or soy can be difficult. So when ordering Beef & Broccoli Stir Fry from a restaurant isn’t an option due to allergies, now you have a delicious recipe that’s quick and easy to make at home!

Beef Broccoli Stir fry

What ingredients you need to make Beef & Broccoli Stir Fry:

  • Stir fry beef
  • Avocado oil or olive oil spray
  • Broccoli florets
  • Jasmine rice
  • Coconut aminos
  • Honey
  • Water, divided
  • Cornstarch 
  • Grated ginger
  • Minced garlic
  • Black pepper
  • Crushed red pepper, optional
  • Rice wine vinegar
  • Sesame oil
  • Sesame seeds

How to make Beef & Broccoli Stir Fry on the stove in less than 30 minutes:

  1. Spray a deep skillet with oil and add stir fry beef. Cook over medium heat until cooked through and no long pink 
  2. As beef is cooking, add broccoli florets to a microwave safe bowl and pour in 1/4 cup water. Microwave on high for 3 minutes. Drain water and add cooked broccoli to skillet with cooked beef
  3. Cook rice according to package directions or use rice pouches for a quick and easy option
  4. Make the sauce: add coconut aminos, 1/2 cup water, cornstarch, ginger, garlic, pepper, crushed red pepper flakes, vinegar, and sesame oil to a small saucepan. Bring to a boil, stirring often, and then reduce heat to low. Simmer until sauce begins to thicken and sticks to the back of your spoon. 
  5. Pour sauce over beef and broccoli and stir to combine
  6. Serve beef and broccoli stir fry over cooked Jasmine rice and top with sesame seeds

How to make Beef & Broccoli Stir Fry in a slow cooker:

  1. Add stir fry beef, coconut aminos, 1/2 cup water, cornstarch, ginger, garlic, pepper, crushed red pepper flakes, vinegar, and sesame oil to slow cooker, and stir to combine. Cook on high for 4 hours or low for 6 hours. 
  2. Add broccoli 1 hour before serving so it can become tender OR add broccoli and 1/4 cup water to microwave safe bowl and cook on high for 3 minutes and then add to the slow cooker 30 minutes before serving
  3. Make rice according to package directions or use rice pouches for a quick and easy option 
  4. Serve Beef & Broccoli Stir Fry over Jasmine rice and top with sesame seeds

Ingredients
  

  • 1 pound stir fry beef or beef strips see notes above for alternative
  • avocado oil or olive oil spray
  • 2 cups broccoli florets
  • 1 cup uncooked Jasmine rice
  • 1/2 cup coconut aminos
  • tablespoons honey
  • 3/4 cups water divided
  • 1 tablespoon cornstarch
  • 1 tablespoon grated ginger
  • 1 tablespoon minced garlic about 3 cloves
  • 1/4 teaspoon black pepper
  • 1/4-1/2 teaspoon crushed red pepper flakes optional, adds heat!
  • 2 tablespoons rice wine vinegar
  • 2 tablespoons sesame oil
  • sesame seeds for serving

Instructions
 

Stovetop Directions:
